Your donations have already done so much for our community, particularly for Amazing Grace School, improving the standard of living and education for the people of Kisoro. Below shows a number of recent completed projects made possible by you.
The construction of a new raised, flushing toilet for our teaching team.
The construction of several vegetable growing beds, teaching our children about how food appears on their plates whilst also providing some yummy vegetables for their suppers.
The clearing of new land which is now used as a playground for the preschool.
The construction of an incinerator for rubbish produced at the school, making our grounds a much cleaner, safer space for our children to learn and have fun.
The completion of a new brick-built classroom and dormitory for boys, creating better learning conditions and allowing for more pupils.
The new land we hope to purchase bordering the school
The current triple bunkbeds
Current temporary classrooms
Current boys' toilets
Current pre-school benches
Despite these improvements, there still remains considerable infrastructure requirements at Amazing Grace School. Three urgent priorities have been identified, two of which are needed in compliance with the recent school inspection carried out in October 2024
1) A new girls' dormitory.
Although the school was praised for its outstanding pastoral care and educational atmosphere, the October inspection deemed the current girls' and boys' dormitories too close together. To resolve this, we are attempting to purchase new land (with an estimated cost of £12,000- £14,000) beyond the pre-school play area for building a new accommodation block. We are grateful to the donors at Visa.com who have donated the funds to cover this need.
Once purchased, a further estimated £15,000 will be needed to construct the new dormitory block with adjacent toilets and washrooms.
2) A move to double bunks in all dormitories.
Another legal requirement identified by the school inspection is for accommodation throughout the school to be in double rather than triple bunk beds. The construction of the new dormitory block for girls will allow sufficient space for this, but there will then remain the need to purchase enough double bunks for all boarders. This is estimated at £11,500 with an additional £5,000 needed for new mattresses and £1,500 for pillows and mosquito nets.
3) Fencing of the pre-school playground.
To ensure the safety of the youngest pupils at the school the new play area requires urgent fencing. It is estimated that the cost will be £600. The school is very grateful to Heritage School for kindly raising these funds so that the fencing can go ahead.
Finally, a number of less immediately urgent needs have been identified:
On his last visit to Kisoro in January 2025, Dr. Stuart Creed took this video of our school - we hope you enjoy!
